How should an innovative school principal think about her career?
Till that evening, I believed that whoever knows the following three things as a school principal
school innovation
People Management
and brand communication
is destined to grow in her / his career as a School Principal.
But that conversation with Tripti shattered my belief.
I could not believe that a School Principal with her stature and caliber, who have all three capabilities, would be struggling with frustration
The frustration of not being able to grow in her career in the way she deserved.
And I decided to look at this issue threadbare to understand, what was stopping her to grow in her career.
Since there is no right-in-place mechanism or licensing to become a school principal, you may find most school principals today, do not understand any of the above three i.e innovation, communication, and leadership.
And they never try to improve upon these and that is why they never succeed.
You can find such school principals changing schools every year.
Then there is another set of school principals, who understand innovation and communication, but not leadership
If you are one of those, you already know, you have not been able to make a huge impact just because you always had people issues.
and this happens almost always within the first 3 years.
This more than a 3-year mark in one workplace aka school is a critical sign of knowing people management the right way.
But what about leaders like Tripti?
Who knows all 3 things and still has not been able to make it big in the system
If you are one of those, I am writing this article for you only
The first thing you should do is to stop thinking about those friends of yours, who are working in other schools and have been growing leaps and bounds
who may have been growing only one school for more than a decade and claim that they have made this happen
Anybody is free to think whatever they want but that does not make it the truth
Schools cannot grow without a vision and this vision has to come from the school management.
Only school management with a vision will allow a free hand to a school principal to innovate, experiment, and implement a school culture.
You see a school management with a vision can grow their school even with a mediocre school principal, but without a vision, even the best of the school principals will not survive in the seat for long.
So, If you are an innovative school principal who understands brand communication and leadership as well and has still not been able to make it big
I would simply want to tell you
that there is a huge possibility that you have not been able to find a school management with a vision.
and all those peers of yours who are claiming that they have made it happen should agree, that there is a huge chance that they have simply been lucky to get the right nurturing environment for their innovation and communication skills.
There have been a very small number of school owners with a vision.
So, if you are struggling with this, you need to be like those School Principals, who beat this mark of luck with the right approach.
