Before everything else, we want to talk about how a term coined by American Navy Seals is impacting one of our weekly theme?
VUCA is a term coined by American Navy Seals to define the nature of their missions which were Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous.
Later in 2016 at Davos, Klaus Schwab, the founder of World Economic Forum, used this term to define the nature of future, the VUCA future.
and the term VUCA, became popular.
In the previous edition I told you about the internet experiment that I did and how VUCA became so connected with me
As this newsletter is evolving, our name, our themes, our topic selection, everything is changing as we are determined to improve our content, we have created four themes
The theme for the first week of the month is ‘The VUCA School’
And in this we talk about preparing students with futuristic skills
The VUCA School is very much inspired by the VUCA future.
As I am building this newsletter for School Leaders, one of the skill I want them to develop is to influence parents
and for that they themselves need to know a lot of things
But in the daily hustle bustle, most school leaders do not find time to explore and learn new things
And that is why, I want this newsletter to be a learning source for them
where every week in just 5-10 minutes School Leaders can learn a thing of substance.
and I thought, a challenge would be the best mechanism
Can I expect that out of 456 current subscribers, at least one school leader would be willing to try a hand on the following challenge?
Are you the one?
Can you stop surrendering to the status quo of the mighty curriculum and get ready to teach something to yourself that may not be in the school books but is the need of the hour?
Every month in the first week, the challenge would be to learn about one of the skills that is necessary to get ready for the future of the workplace.
I want that at least 5 school leader should try a hand in creating a mechanism that can help their students to explore Data Analytics.
From Web Analyst to Data Analyst, Data Scientist, Data Engineer, Business Intelligence Analyst, Business Analyst, all these jobs are based on Analytics.
But ironically, in our schools, most teachers cannot differentiate Analysis from Analytics
In a laymen perspective,
Analysis is usually related to explore data to understand what happened in the past
while Analytics is to explore data to understand trends and to make sense of the future.
You may explore this wonderful article by Coursera 12 Data Analytics Books for Beginners: A 2025 Reading List
or you may also go through this video or any other similar video to understand the basics
and remember I said Basics and not Fundamentals,
You can learn basics just like that but to learn fundamentals, it may take months and years.
Anyways
I want at least one innovative school leader, out of my entire audience, to come forward to explore the possibilities of teaching data analytics at middle school.
I plan to build a small team of 5 experts (including one School Leader) to create a full document on this idea.
Will you be that school leader?
Will your name be published on this doc?
Would you take this challenge?
You may either create a concept of a school club around data analytics
or an interesting activity for math /reasoning class,
you may also create a series of co-curricular activity,
or you may design it as a project at home,
whatever way you think is good, make it.
and propose it to us through contact@edmonks.com maximum by Sunday night March 12th, 2025.
I will talk to all those, who will apply for it with some idea and one of them will be invited to participate and share thoughts with our team to build this doc on Teaching Anaytics at School.
Please note that the job of the educator is not to make things tough, their job is to make things easy, so we are not looking for very difficult projects, we want some very simple things that are appropriate for middle school students, very very simple.
Are you the one who would try?

My son is a Data Scientist at InterGlobe (IndiGo Airlines), but I had little knowledge of Data Analytics or Data Science. This article has helped me overcome my fear and given me the confidence to understand the basics. I appreciate the book recommendations through the Coursera link and will select at least two of them to enhance my knowledge.
