Budget School Growth Pilot Project | On completion of one of six months in the pilot | I already feel like leaving it but i cannot
School Admission and Growth Challenges and opportunity
Just a month ago, I started a growth pilot project in a budget school
the school where the fee is way less than INR 1000 per month,
where the bottom of the social strata of our society sends their children to
where the teachers are not even trainable
where several parents do not even have a phone to see the school's communication
And you get no marks in guessing what might have happened to me in just a month in such a school.
Within the first week
I have seen a mass exodus of teachers,
resignation of the school principal,
the ire of the parents
and yes, I have seen
a phenomenal improvement in the confidence level of students
Here are a few videos by these students, who were 10 days ago not able to recite rhymes like ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ properly have now started singing songs like the following
Not only that, but in just a month of this project, their confidence has grown manifold.
Do have a look at this video clip about how they are feeling in this pilot project.
and all this happened, while in parallel all the teachers along with the school principal left the school within a week of the starting of this pilot project.
It made me sad and even angry for a while, and I felt like letting them go
But when my mind settled down, I realized, I kind of liked this school principal and her team
These teachers were bright young girls who just wanted the right direction and I just wanted all of them to continue.
I liked the principal because she has put a lot of work into the ground. She has built the whole thing herself.
Both parents and teachers love her.
Who would like to lose such a school principal?
And I was happy that with the effort and intervention of the school management, we were finally able to let the team understand that I am in no way a threat to them
But it is very hard to believe people just on words
And the team took almost two weeks before they were finally willing to work with me in full swing.
Things started moving in the right direction.
Teachers were expected to do just one small task every week.
But now, just after a week after this video shoot, the school principal left the school WhatsApp groups two days ago.
Despite I know that most conflicts can be solved with communication, I did not talk to the principal
I am at a crossroads now,
I know I can get some replacement
But at the same time, there is an emotional pain in my mind that press me to think as if I am unknowingly the culprit in someway
I really want to understand what went wrong
Is she leaving because
she felt losing authority
or Maybe it is because of unwillingness to learn the new
or is it just a plain communication gap
Frankly friends, I do not know the right answer, but I will keep you posted on this
While it is difficult to determine the exact reason for the mass exodus and the Principal's resignation, I feel like we can look at our approach to the project and consider if there are any adjustments we can make to change and improve communication and collaboration with the school's administration and staff.
If we may have open and honest communication with the school principal again it may help us to better understand her perspective and address any concerns.
That being said, I felt your pain and I am sure you must have already tried what I have suggested above. But I sincerely hope you don't take the entire blame on yourself.
